Tesla News: Elon Musk Hints at Two Upcoming Vehicles in Earnings Call
Tesla has three upcoming vehicles, the Cybertruck, Roadster, and the Semi. If you don’t count the ATV, which may or may not be like one of those Mini-Cons from Transformers, only made to complement the larger toys.
Anyways, Elon Musk recently hinted at the potential for a couple of vehicles beyond those planned in their current road map. In their 2020 Q2 earnings call, the CEO was asked about any future models which haven’t been disclosed.
Naturally, Tesla saves those kinds of details for their publicly broadcast reveal events, so not many details were given. Although Musk did point in the direction of a couple of existing rumors.
I don’t think we can comment on our detailed road map beyond what’s announced because we want to reserve that for product launches. But it would be reasonable to assume that we would make a compact vehicle of some kind and probably a higher capacity vehicle of some kind. These are likely things at some point. But I do think there’s a long way to go with Model 3 and Model Y, and with Cybertruck and Semi. So long way to go with those. I think we’ll do the obvious things.
The compact vehicle has been mentioned both in relation to the Chinese market, as well as the upcoming German Gigafactory. Musk recently tweeted about the potential for a future model to be designed at the Berlin factory, and that it could be a smaller Euro-centric model.
As for the “higher capacity vehicle,” that has been subject to much speculation surrounding the Boring Company tunnel systems. A larger Tesla could be ideal for shuttling passengers down tunnels, although Musk recently disagreed with that concept while tweeting a render of an upcoming Boring station in Las Vegas.
With their recent success, there seems to be little doubt that Tesla will continue to develop future models. Even a smaller Cybertruck would in a way be akin to Ford’s Ranger and F-150 relationship. I for one, would love to see a Tesla 4×4.
