Acura ZDX vs Cadillac Lyriq: Is Acura’s New Deal Making It the Top Luxury EV Choice?
Acura has officially entered the all-electric arena with its debut fully electric vehicle, the ZDX, introduced back in 2022 and built on General Motors’ innovative Ultium platform. This platform is shared by another notable electric vehicle (EV), the Cadillac Lyriq, marking a significant step in collaboration and technology sharing between the automotive giants.
The unveiling of the ZDX followed its initial announcement by a year, featuring both single and dual-motor powertrains. This includes the high-performance Type S models, designed to cater to more dynamic driving needs. With initial pricing for the 2024 model set at $64,500, the ZDX positions itself above the Cadillac Lyriq, which starts at $57,195. The pricing structure extends to $68,500 for the Dual Motor A-Spec trim, with the Type S and S Performance models tagged at $73,500 and $74,500 respectively.
In a move to make the ZDX more competitive, Acura recently adjusted its finance offers. The brand introduced a lowered financing rate of 0.9% for up to 72 months, a significant reduction from the previous 2.9% rate for 48 months. This adjustment can save buyers nearly $7,200 on a fully loaded ZDX Type S Performance model. In addition, Acura is extending $1,000 in loyalty or conquest cash on leases and ensuring that buyers can benefit from the $7,500 EV federal tax credit directly at purchase.
The financing deals for the ZDX compare favorably against those of other EVs built on the GM Ultium platform. For instance, Chevrolet’s Blazer and Equinox EVs come with higher lease rates starting at 3.9%, and only the Equinox EV features a recent $1,500 conquest cash incentive. Cadillac’s own Lyriq offers financing at a 5.9% rate, making the ZDX a potentially more attractive option based on the overall cost of ownership.
The technical prowess of the ZDX is evident in its range and motor configurations. The A-Spec single motor (rear-wheel drive) model offers a range of up to 313 miles, while its dual-motor (all-wheel drive) counterpart offers 304 miles. The Type S and S Performance models, both equipped with dual motors and all-wheel drive, provide a range of 278 miles. These specifications place the ZDX in a competitive position within the growing luxury EV segment.
On the sales front, the ZDX has seen a promising uptake in the U.S. market, with 338 models sold this year, a significant proportion of which occurred in the last month. This surge in sales can be attributed to increased availability and the attractive financing terms. According to Lance Woelfer, Vice President of Honda America’s auto sales, the sales pattern of the ZDX is expected to follow that of Honda’s Prologue, indicating robust distribution strategies moving forward.
