Dodge CEO, Tim Kuniskis, made an incredibly exciting announcement at the end of the first day of Dodge’s Speed Week.
The American car company did not hold back on day one where we saw a Challenger Convertible, a carbon-fibre bodied 1970 Charger and a Durango SRT Hellcat. However, what Kuniskis revealed at the end of the day is what has got everyone talking. Talking about what we can expect from the second day, he said:
“We’re going to flip the page and we’re going to look at our future – our first new electrified Dodge.”
Kuniskis left us hanging at that point and did not give away any more information, although many are speculating that he is referring to the 2023 Hornet. Dodge released a concept car of the same name back in 2006, although it is unlikely to be anything like that. The 2006 concept was a minivan that was meant to be produced but it the project was cancelled.
There have been spy shots floating around which suggest it is similar looking to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. It is suspected that it will be a compact crossover.
The expected similarities between the electrified Dodge and the Tonale go beyond the looks as many believe it will have a similar or even better performance. As a guide, the PHEV Tonale has a 1.3 litre turbo engine as well as a 90 kWh electric motor. It has 272 horsepower and a six-speed automatic gearbox. It has a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which gives a little over 30 miles of range, obviously a fully electric car will need to have a lot more than that!
