The Elon Musk and Twitter drama has been continuing with a whistleblower coming forward claiming that he was fired after bringing up security concerns to Twitter’s leadership and that some of these concerns involved bots.
Musk has been trying to get out of the deal to purchase the social media company and has put this down to Twitter not releasing information about how many bots the site has. So I am sure this whistleblower news has put a rather big smile on Musk’s face.
The whistleblower, Peiter Zatko, was the former head of security at Twitter and he claims that there are major security flaws related to personal information, national security, and democracy. According to Zatko, Twitter’s leadership have not been clear to its own board members about these issues.
CNN asked Twitter for a response to these comments and they claim that Zatko was let go for poor performance and ineffective leadership. They also say that the claims that Zatko is making are “riddled with inconsistencies and inaccuracies, and lacks important context”:
“Mr. Zatko was fired from his senior executive role at Twitter for poor performance and ineffective leadership over six months ago. While we haven’t had access to the specific allegations being referenced, what we’ve seen so far is a narrative about our privacy and data security practices that is riddled with inconsistencies and inaccuracies, and lacks important context. Mr. Zatko’s allegations and opportunistic timing appear designed to capture attention and inflict harm on Twitter, its customers, and its shareholders. Security and privacy have long been company-wide priorities at Twitter and we still have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Musk has clearly been enjoying this latest news from afar, but just couldn’t help himself with posting a quick update to his Twitter, and what he chose was hilariously perfect.
The drama is likely to continue and Musk and Twitter will be going to trial, so we are sure Musk’s legal team will be using this.
