Elon Musk’s Relationship History Is Surprising: From Grimes To Amber Heard

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has been married three times and has seven children. Musk explained in 2010 that he would “rather stick a fork in my hand than write about my personal life”. However, Musk has occasionally opened up about personal life over the years. He became unusually open in a lengthy Rolling Stoneinterview by Neil Strauss published in November 2017.

Here’s a look at Elon Musk’s past relationships.

Justine Wilson

Elon Musk, the entrepreneur behind SpaceX, met his first wife, Justine Wilson, at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada. She recalled that Musk invited her out for ice cream when she was writing in Marie Claire. She chose to stay in and study rather than going out with him so he showed up uninvited anyway with “two chocolate-chip ice cream cones dripping down his hands.”

Elon Musk moved to Wharton and kept showering Justine with flowers. They broke up, but rejoined once Elon began working on his first business and Justine started writing her first novel after graduation. When asked how Elon won her over, Justine replied that he gave her his credit card so she could buy as many books as she pleased. The pair married in 2000.

The pair relocated to Los Angeles, where they had a son named Nevada who sadly died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). They eventually gained twin and triplet children – five sons in total. Musk referred to his children as “the love of my life” in 2010. The couple sadly parted ways in 2008.

Talulah Riley

After his divorce, the billionaire began dating actress Talulah Riley.

Justine told Marie Claire that she and Riley ended up getting along swimmingly after their divorce, adding: “I would rather live out the French movie version of things, in which the two women become friends and various beliefs are pondered.”

They married in 2010, and two years later, news of their split came out when Musk posted this to Riley: “It was a fantastic four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day.”

In 2013, the couple remarried. Musk filed for, and then subsequently withdrew, a second divorce in 2014. In 2016, Riley filed for divorce from Musk, which was finalized in late 2016. The two are still on good terms: “We still see each other all the time and look after each other,” People quotes her as saying.

Amber Heard

Although short-lived, Musk dated Johnny Depp’s ex, Amber Heard, in 2016. They broke up a year later putting it down to their busy mid-matching schedules.

In a remark on one of Heard’s Instagram postings, Musk stated that he and his ex-girlfriend were “still friends, remain close, and love each other,” adding that “who knows what the future holds.” “I was really in love, and it hurt bad.”

Grimes

Musk showed up to the notoriously glitzy annual Met Gala in 2018 with Grimes, a Canadian musician. It was reported that the pair had been “secretly dating” for a few weeks. Musk and Grimes independently discovered one another on Twitter. Musk was going to make a jab at AI, particularly the Rococo Basilisk character in her Flesh Without Blood video, and saw that Grimes had already beaten him to it.

Elon Musk has expressed his admiration for Grimes on several occasions. “I love Grimes because of her wild fae artistic creativity and hyper-intense work ethic,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

In January 2020, Grimes revealed on her Instagram and Twitter accounts that she was expecting a child. Musk later confirmed the birth of their son, who he and Grimes named X Æ A-Xii Musk, apparently translated as “X Ash A-12.”

The pair officially separated after three years together, with Musk confirming via social media that he and Canadian songstress Grimes are “semi-separated” but remain on good terms and continue to co-parent their one-year-old son.

“We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms.”
