It has been reported that Ferrari has applied for a patent similar to one of the Tesla Roadster systems.
According to Teslarati, the automaker has applied for a patent for a “pulsejet” system that could enhance acceleration, similar to Elon Musk’s next-gen Tesla Roadster rocket thrusters.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has sparked speculation about the capabilities of the upcoming Roadster by suggesting it could “fly” a bit. While this is not to be taken literally, the vehicle is expected to come equipped with a compressed air system at the back to boost performance. The system could allow the Roadster to “get more air” when doing “jumps,” although this would likely prove to be an unsafe feature.
Ferrari’s quest for innovative technology in high-performance vehicles led them to file a patent in 2019 for a concept called “High-Performance Car with Gas Pushers.” This patent has now made its way into the US Patent database, and it showcases a design that bears resemblance to Elon Musk’s vision for the next-gen Tesla Roadster’s SpaceX package. Both Ferrari and Tesla have the same objective in mind, to utilize compressed air thrusters for a quicker acceleration and the possibility of achieving a hovering effect.
According to the details of Ferrari’s patent, the pulsejet system would utilise compressed air thrusters for quicker acceleration and could also aid in braking and handling. Compressed air tanks or liquid fuel technology would be placed at the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle to make this possible. The patent language states:
“At least one compressed air tank and at least one gas pusher…can be activated in order to generate respective air jets…so as to generate different pneumatic thrusts.”
