GM-Backed Baojung Just Unveiled The EV to Rule Them All
Ten years ago, GM, SAIC, and Wuling Motors all got together with large duffel-bags of untraceable bills and decided they would back Baojung. While that might not be entirely accurate, now that it’s been a decade, the Chinese Baojung has unveiled their hottest new EV, and I’ll be the first to admit, it’s got style and grace.
The e300 and e300 Plus are small city-oriented cars, with funky designs that remind you of the Smart cars. They come in loads of configurations between the two models, but all will have 40 kW and 150 Nm electric motors. One has two or three seats, the other has four. Here’s the catch, they cost between 64,800 ($9,154) and 84,800 RMB($11,980).
For under $12k USD, you could have a small EV with either 162 or 190 miles of range, and about as much power as… well power isn’t important here, it’ll go fast enough. However, the e300 can fast-charge, to fill its battery in about an hour.
Baojung have fit all the modern amenities you’d expect from a little car. Touchscreen display, navigation, voice controls, airbags, ABS with EBD and hydraulic brake assist, aluminum wheels, and even double-wishbone independent suspension.
I know you all won’t necessarily run out and import one of these quirky cars, but it’s a good day when China adds another tool to their toolbox for reducing emissions. Baojung have also surprised with the affordability of this EV, which isn’t the cheapest, but does a lot to make affordable meet practical.
If you do order one, please make a video and send it my way.
