Huawei Luxeed R7 EREV Will Have a 1,000-Mile Range

The Huawei Luxeed R7 EREV is set to debut on December 19 in China. This SUV, comparable in size to the well-known BMW X6, symbolizes a collaborative venture between Chery and Huawei, marking a vital step in their partnership. Chery takes on the role of developing the platform and manufacturing the vehicles, while Huawei contributes by overseeing both software and sales operations.

Initially priced at approximately £26,500, the Luxeed R7 EREV is tailored for the Chinese market. This new entrant owes its distinction to the integration of Huawei’s renowned third-generation Qiankun Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This sophisticated system emphasizes high-tech features, including advanced mapless intelligent driving and enhanced collision avoidance. Huawei’s endeavor to equip the vehicle with an intelligent driving experience is underscored by leveraging its General Obstacle Detection (GOD) network and the Perception-Decision-Planning (PDP) decision-making neural network.

The Luxeed R7 EREV utilizes a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine that operates solely as a generator, charging the vehicle’s battery while the wheels are driven by an electric motor. A noteworthy specification is its 36 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, supplied by battery giant CATL, ensuring an electric-only range of approximately 124 miles. This electric capability, combined with its petrol-based range, extends up to a remarkable total of 975 miles as per the Chinese CLTC cycle. This extensive range addresses one of the primary concerns for electric vehicle users—range anxiety—paving the way for long-distance travel without frequent charging interruptions.

Stylistically, the Luxeed R7 EREV remains faithful to its electric counterpart’s modern and simplistic design. With elements like slender headlights, retractable door handles, and a slanted roofline, its aesthetics are designed to appeal to modern sensibilities. Interestingly, the vehicle dimensions extend slightly beyond those of the BMW X6, offering additional space and comfort.

Huawei’s Qiankun ADAS is an integral feature of this vehicle, pushing the boundaries of autonomous vehicle technologies. The interface supports autonomous high-speed navigation and intelligent parking solutions, illustrating the progress towards creating autonomous vehicles capable of navigating complex driving environments. This technology allows drivers increased convenience, including the ability to simply exit and walk away from the car while it autonomously parks in available spaces.

The Luxeed brand’s previous models, particularly the R7 coupe SUV, have enjoyed significant success, with sales exceeding 11,000 units in November 2024 alone. This success serves as a promising indicator for the incoming EREV model, suggesting robust demand within the market.

The strategic collaboration between Huawei and Chery illustrates a mutually beneficial alliance, as it combines automotive manufacturing expertise with cutting-edge technological advancements. Huawei’s commitment to innovation is further depicted by its plans to incorporate the Qiankun ADS 3.0 system across multiple new models from various partners, including established automotive brands such as Dongfeng, Changan, and GAC.

Moreover, the Luxeed R7 EREV’s performance and safety are augmented by advanced technologies such as the Qiankun iDVP intelligent vehicle digital platform, the Qiankun Vehicle Control Module, and the XMotion 2.0 Body Motion Collaborative Control system. These features work collectively to enhance driving performance, stability, and safety, providing sophisticated adaptive slip control and high-speed obstacle avoidance.
