Tesla Model Y Sees Huge Success As It Slowly Becomes Highest-Selling Car In The World

The Tesla Model Y is set to be the highest-selling car in the world this year, if it hits the target revenue.

Tesla has revealed that the Model Y, which is already the best-selling electric car in the world, is still on target for the pledge and could also be the best-selling car next year as well, if they stay on track.

Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, has made many bold statements over the years which seem to get stretched or pushed back, such the release of the Cybertruck and the self-driving system. So, it is great to see the Model Y predictions following through.

Prior to the launch of the Model Y, Musk claimed that it would double the popularity of the Model 3 which was the best-selling electric car at that time. Musk anticipated the demand for the Model Y to be between 500,000 to 1 million sales per year and after being available for two years, this is proving to come true.

Musk made the announcement of the Model Y success at the annual shareholder’s meeting yesterday. The current highest-selling car is the Toyota Corolla, which has had approximately 1,150,000 this year and with Tesla ramping up production, the Model Y is on track to surpass this.

Tesla will use the whole of the Gigafactories in Texas and Berlin to solely produce the Model Y and Tesla have said that they will have the capacity to produce over 1 million Model Ys a year, by the end of 2022.
