Tesla News: Musk Sets Date For Battery Investors Day

In some alternative universe, this Battery Day would have taken place months ago. Instead, the long awaited event has been delayed more times than we care to count, and Tesla fans have been driven mad with anticipation.

Now, Elon Musk has given the “tentative” date for both the Tesla Shareholder Meeting and the Battery day as September 15. If all holds fast, then we will likely be impressed with a greatly improved cell, the likes of which the world has never seen.

Previous big days for Tesla included the reveal of the Cybertruck, as well as the HW3 for their self-driving AI system. It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had a new unveil however, and the batteries rumored to be included in this announcement could mean 1+ million-mile lifespans, the great reduction in cobalt usage, and longer range for Tesla’s vehicles.

In the meantime, we know that Tesla’s Chinese battery partner CATL, has announced their new cells that do meet these expectations. The speculation that surrounds the upcoming Tesla announcement seems to be surprisingly grounded in reality.

We know that a long-standing goal for Musk has been the achievement of price-parity with ICE cars. The $100/kWh point would represent that for Li-on batteries, and it looks like that may have been broken in recent months. We’ll have to wait until at least September now, before we find out how far Tesla has gone.
