Tesla Reveals Plans For “Diner And Drive-In Theatre” In Hollywood

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has revealed it is moving its plan to create a “diner and drive-in theatre” in Santa Monica, California, to a new secret location somewhere in Hollywood at a Supercharger station.

Musk said in 2018 that Tesla planned to open an “old school drive-in, roller skates and rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles”. Many thought this was another one of Musk’s rash comments that wouldn’t go anywhere, yet a few months later, Tesla applied for building permits for a “restaurant and Supercharger station” in Santa Monica.

Local regulations had since stalled the project but Tesla still moved forward with a Superchargers at the location as Los Angeles’s are still needing to have more of these across the area. The project was approved in April 2021 and at that point Musk said again that they were planning on building a retro 1950s diner at the location even though this wasn’t on the construction plans.

Construction started in January this year and the first phase is already in operation. At the moment, there is no diner at the location but Tesla is letting a food truck part in the lot. There is also another lot on the other side which is bigger which Tesla has required as well. This further lot will have more charger and a small building.

The “old school diner” with the drive-in movie theatre which was originally described by Musk is still missing from the contraction plans, even from the area with the small building which has left fans puzzled. When questioned about the new Santa Monica station, Musk revealed that the original plan had moved to Hollywood.

From doing some digging, Tesla looks to only have one Supercharger station projected for the Hollywood area and it is reported that this is due to open in Q2 2022. Musk has also now seemingly changed his mind to have the diner be “futuristic” rather than the original “retro” style he was previously describing.
