Many are choosing to electrically convert their gas-powered car due to the insane fuel price increases as well as the environmental aspects. Some are just keen to future-proof their pride and joys.
As we have seen in many other projects, such as the Tesla-swapped Mini, hugely expensive Rolls Royce and breathtaking Ford GT40. Now, we have discovered this amazing EV conversion of a 1975 BMW 1602.
Welsh company, Electric Classic Cars fully restored the classic BMW as well as carrying out the conversion. They took out the 1.6 litre engine and replaced it with an air-cooled HyPer 9 electric motor. The new motor provides 120 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels.
Electric Classic Cars attached the motor to the stock four-speed gearbox. The car weighs just 1,064 kg and goes from 0-62 mpg in 7.5 seconds and has a maximum speed of 100 mph. The team went for 16 LG Chem lithium-ion cells (40 kWh) which gives 150 miles of range on a full charge.
The stunning Oak Green paint is inspired by Porsche and is also similar to the VW Golf GTI Mk2. They have lowered the ride height by 30mm with Eibach springs and the classic car has also been graced with 15-inch BBC replica wheels and Brembo front brakes.
Now, before you get too excited, this whole project came at a pretty hefty price of £80,000 which is roughly $97,500, currently. This did include the original car, restoration and EV conversion, though.
