Adding to the never-ending stream of COVID-related cancellations and postponements, GM has announced that their new electric Hummer reveal has been postponed. The all-electric SUV and pickup versions are anticipated to revive the Hummer brand, in an ironically environmentally conscious and quiet fashion.
Aside from teaser images and a new mysterious video, little is known about the 400-mile range EV. GMC has included upper range specs for the H-E* on their site, including a top horsepower of 1,000, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 time of 3 seconds. We can now see what looks like a four-door cab, with a short bed behind in the bird’s eye view.
While we cannot wait to show the GMC Hummer EV to the world, we will reschedule the May 20th reveal date. In the meantime, the team’s development work continues on track and undeterred. We invite all to stay tuned for more stories on this super truck’s incredible capability leading up to its official debut.
Interestingly enough, the Hummer has a long history of electrification. Famously, Arnold Schwarzenegger had his H1 modified to electric in 2017, as a sort of reconciliation for popularizing the notorious gas-guzzler. This ‘retromod’ version doesn’t share all of the performance with its future descendant, but nonetheless deserves some attention. The Hummer brand’s fate has been intertwined with electrification and green energy for years, and it will take more than a pandemic to stop this big boy from being released.

*As far as we know, this is the coining of H-E as a reference to Hummer’s Electric model.
