Tesla Model S Plaid’s Nurburgring Record Destroyed By Porsche Taycan Turbo S

There has been a huge amount of hype surrounding the insane performance of the Tesla Model S Plaid with its 0-62 mph time of just 1.99 seconds. A stock Model S Plaid also set a fastest lap record for a production electric vehicle around the Nurburgring, completing the lap in just 7:35.579 minutes.

This obviously irked Porsche as they have just knocked the Model S Plaid off the top spot with an incredible Nurburgring lap time roughly two seconds faster at 7:33.350 minutes in the Porsche Taycan Turbo S with the Performance Kit.

Lars Kern, the Porsche development driver who completed the record breaking lap, commented on the EV:

“In the past, only thoroughbred super sports cars got into the 7:33 range. With the new performance kit I was able to push even harder, and the car was even more precise and agile to boot,”

Before you get too excited and look to trade in your Model S Plaid, the Taycan Turbo S Performance Kit is currently only available in Germany through Porsche Tequipment. It is also only for 2023 Taycan Turbo S vehicles which went into production towards the end of July this year and the Performance Kit is anticipated to be made available at the end of this year.

Head of Product Line Taycan, Kevin Giek, expressed his delight over the record, saying:

“We’re delighted that the Nürburgring record for electric cars is back in Porsche hands. This lap time not only shows how much potential lies in our new performance kit, but also confirms once again the sports car genes of the Taycan,”

Roll on the fight for the comeback from Tesla.
