Tesla Rolls Out New Software With Track Mode, Improved Regen Braking, And Much More

Tesla is beginning to roll out a new over-the-air update which includes a number of additional features and improvements.

Updates have been coming slowly this year, but the latest update, 2020.8, is the biggest update so far for 2020. But due to Tesla rolling the update out very slowly, not a lot is known regarding what it’s actually updating. But a Tesla hacker known as ‘Green’, has looked into it and found a few details. He posted the following to Twitter:

Tesla has since updated us with a number of notes in regard to these updates:

Third-party charging included in navigation

‘Now you can find third-party charging options with your in-car navigation – select sites are available now in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria with additional locations across Europe coming soon. To access, press the lightning bolt icon on the bottom of your touchscreen, scroll down and select a Supercharger, Destination Charging or third-party charging location to navigate to.”

Increased regenerative braking

“Regenerative braking force has been increased to improve the driving experience and increase how much energy is actively returned to the battery when slowing down.”

Improved BlueTooth

“To improve the audio transition from phone-to-car when entering your vehicle, Bluetooth now connects to your paired phone only after you are sitting in the driver’s seat and all doors are closed. As a reminder, you can pair your phone to Bluetooth by touching the Bluetooth icon on the top of your touchscreen and then ‘Add New Device.’”

There are some updates that Green found that Tesla hasn’t commented on yet, such as the full self-driving preview being opened up to new markets such as Europe and Canada, and an updated track mode that will enable drivers to fully customise preferences such as stability control and which wheels power is sent to. ExFat compatibility will also allow you to use a larger selection of storage devices.

More information will surely be released as the OTA updates are rolled out, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
