Elon Musk States Cybertruck Will Only Be Offered In Metal Finish – No Paint Options

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, you’ll have to wrap the upcoming Cybertruck if you want to add any colours or patterns to its metal exterior.

The electric pickup truck threw us all off a little when it was first released. Not only was it strangely angular, but it had no paint. Like the memorable DeLorean, its metal exoskeleton was open to being viewed thanks to no paint covering its metallic body panels, in this case, “ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless-steel”.

“Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Starting with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass.”

Tesla states that this is the best material for this vehicle.

It says the following:

“If there was something better, we’d use it. Help eliminate dents, damage and long-term corrosion with a smooth monochrome exoskeleton that puts the shell on the outside of the car and provides you and your passengers maximum protection.”

Despite the endless painted renders that we’ve been seeing and even Musk hinting at a matt black version of the truck, he’s now confirmed that there will be no paint options.

In order to display different colours or a pattern, the vehicle will have to be wrapped. It’s unclear as to whether this will happen within Tesla during manufacturing or if owners will have to get this done with a third party, but surely if Tesla offers the service, they could reduce the cost of the option compared to a one-off wrap from an independent wrapper.

So the question remains, while we won’t be able to get it painted… are you going to wrap it, and if so, what colour?
